Abstract in Hebrew:
There are no antiviral medications for treating viral infections of the upper respiratory tract (URTI). Since many viruses cause URTI, antiviral treatment is impractical. In light of evidence for chloride ion-dependent innate antiviral response in epithelial cells, we conducted a pilot, unmasked, randomized controlled trial of nasal irrigation and gargling with hypertonic saline (HSNIG) compared to standard treatment in healthy adults.
